Privacy policy
Last updated: Draft
This is a draft, published so you can see where we stand while we finalise it with counsel. If you need something more formal, email hello@mapier.ai.
What this covers
This policy is about Pane Lark: this page, the game's website and the iMessage line you text to play. It is published by Mapier Labs.
For Pane Lark, Mapier Labs is the controller of the personal data described here: we decide what the game collects from players and why.
Mapier's messaging product for developers is a different thing with its own policy at https://www.mapier.ai/privacy. If you are here about that, read that one.
This page
This page sets no cookies, runs no analytics and has no forms. There is no tracking pixel, no session recording and no advertising network on it, and everything it loads comes from this site, including its typeface. Nothing you do here is measured, so there is no consent banner to dismiss.
Like any website, our hosting provider records ordinary request data — IP address, page requested, browser and time — to serve and protect the site. We do not build profiles from it.
If that ever changes it will be described here first, and anything not strictly necessary will ask before it runs.
When you text the line
To play, you text +1 (415) 200-8315. That means the game receives your phone number and whatever you write, because it cannot reply without them.
We use them to run the game: to answer you, to remember how far you have got, and to connect your messages to the game's website. Your messages travel over Apple's iMessage service and are also subject to Apple's terms and to your carrier's data rates.
Your phone number is not what identifies you on the game's website. There, your progress is kept under a code derived from your conversation, and the website's database does not accept a raw phone number.
We do not train on your messages
What you write to the game is not used to train models — ours or anyone else's. It is used to run the game and nothing else.
The game's website
The game's website records how it is played so we can fix and improve it: a random identifier for each browser tab, the pages visited, which actions were tried, and when.
It does not store IP addresses, browser user-agent strings, email addresses, phone numbers, anything you type into it, full referrers or query strings.
Vendors
We use a small number of vendors to run the game, such as hosting and Apple's messaging network. The current list, with what each one processes and where, is available on request at hello@mapier.ai.
How long we keep it
Your conversation with the line, your progress and the game website's interaction records are kept while the game is running, so that it can pick up where you left off. We keep them only to run and improve the game.
You can ask us to delete your game data at any time. Email hello@mapier.ai and we will delete it, and tell you when it is done, within 45 days.
Where data goes
The game runs across cloud infrastructure and our own hosts, which may sit in different jurisdictions from you. The regions in use and the transfer mechanism that covers them are available on request at hello@mapier.ai.
How we protect it
Traffic to the game's website runs over TLS. Access to player data is limited to the people who need it to operate or support the game.
We hold no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA attestation today, and we would rather say so than let a badge imply one. Suspected vulnerabilities can be reported to hello@mapier.ai. We will not pursue good-faith security research that respects players' privacy.
Your rights
Where the law gives you rights over personal data — to see it, correct it, delete it or object to how it is handled — they apply to us. Ask at hello@mapier.ai. If you would rather complain to a regulator than to us, you are entitled to.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are used in the CCPA.
Children
Pane Lark is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child's data has reached us through the game or this website, email hello@mapier.ai and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, this page says so before it takes effect.
